Introduction

As we entered 2017, the University of Florida (UF) had lined up an exciting calendar of events and festivals. Having just graduated from UF, I was excited to attend some of these events and explore Gainesville one more time before starting my professional career.

List of Events and Festivals in Uf Calendar 2017

The calendar was packed with various events and festivals. Here is a list of some of the most notable ones:

  • Spring Fling (March 31 – April 2)
  • Orange and Blue Game (April 8)
  • Cinco de Mayo Festival (May 5)
  • Summer B (June 26 – August 4)
  • Gator Growl (November 3)
  • Homecoming (November 4 – 11)
  • Graduation (December 15 – 17)

Spring Fling

Spring Fling was a three-day festival held on the UF campus that included live music, food trucks, carnival rides, and various other activities. As a student, I always looked forward to Spring Fling, and 2017 did not disappoint. One of the highlights was the concert featuring headliners like Ludacris and A$AP Ferg.

Orange and Blue Game

The Orange and Blue Game is the annual spring scrimmage for the UF football team. While it is not an official game, it provides fans with a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming season. The 2017 game was special as it marked the first time that new head coach Dan Mullen led the Gators onto the field.

Cinco de Mayo Festival

Gainesville has a significant Hispanic population, and the Cinco de Mayo festival is a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. The festival features authentic food, live music, and dancing. It was a great way to learn more about Mexican culture and have fun at the same time.

Summer B

Summer B is the second summer session at UF, where students take classes to catch up or get ahead on credits. As a recent graduate, I did not attend Summer B, but I know many students who did and enjoyed the smaller class sizes and the opportunity to focus on one or two classes at a time.

Gator Growl

Gator Growl is the largest student-run pep rally in the world. The event features musical performances, comedy skits, and a fireworks show. It is a tradition that dates back to 1932 and is a highlight of the Homecoming week festivities.

Homecoming

Homecoming is a week-long celebration where UF alumni return to campus to reconnect with old friends and attend various events. The week includes a parade, pep rally, and the Homecoming football game. As a recent graduate, I did not attend Homecoming, but I have many fond memories of the week from my time at UF.

Graduation

Graduation is the culmination of a student’s time at UF. The ceremony includes speeches from university officials and keynote speakers, as well as the awarding of degrees. It is a bittersweet moment for students as they say goodbye to their friends and the university that has become their home for the past few years.
